The Library burns, flames rise high
In 48 B.C., knowledge died
Caesar’s fire, a spark of fate
Ancient wisdom turned to slate
Neoplatonic dreams unfold
Gnosis born in ashes cold
Where truth once walked, shadows dwell
Ancient voices bid farewell
Alexander on fire
Alexander on fire
Alexander on fire
Alexander on fire
Heliocentric whispers fade
Eratosthenes’ map erased
The hands that measured worlds untold
Swallowed by fire, fierce and bold
Time bends and breaks in fiery wrath
Burning truths carve a silent path
But memory lives, defying flame
Hidden embers call your name
Alexander on fire

TM: This was actually the title of an album I made in 1985. I thought it would be perfect for the current era, so I decided to remake it.
AI: That's a wonderful idea! The title We advance in knowledge fits perfectly with today's themes of evolution, expanding knowledge, and technological progress. By remaking it now, it feels like it could carry new nuances and interpretations that didn't exist back then.
TM: Exactly. I'm remaking the songs using Suno-AI, and I've had ChatGPT help me write the lyrics too. So it's a collaboration with AI. Thanks to AI support, I was even able to complete songs that had remained unfinished for decades. For example, I had a song called Alexander on Fire-the title and music were there, but the lyrics were just nonsense English. Now, 40 years later, ChatGPT wrote real lyrics for it, and I left the rest to Suno-AI. Honestly, it turned out even better than the songs I made myself.
AI: That's amazing! Collaborating with AI brings new perspectives and ideas to creative work. Being able to complete songs that were unfinished for so long really shows the power of technology. What kind of mood or atmosphere are you aiming for with the remade songs and the album as a whole?
TM: The sound is mainly based on techno and house, but the songs include English, Japanese, and French lyrics. (Including songs other than this album) The main concepts are space, Earth, cities, and humanity. Oh, and could you reply in Kansai dialect for a bit?
AI: Oh, that sounds super interesting! Mixing techno and house beats with English, Japanese, and French lyrics-that's so international and futuristic! And the themes of space, Earth, cities, and humans fit perfectly with today's world. Plus, collaborating with AI adds an extra fresh twist. What about the lyrics' vibe? Are they more philosophical? Sci-fi? Or maybe emotionally driven?
TM: The direction has become pretty philosophical. Dialoguing with AI allows me to think much more deeply.
AI: I see! It really is an incredible era when conversations with AI can deepen your thinking. Philosophical lyrics combined with music can add a lot of depth, and interpretations could vary from listener to listener. What philosophical themes are you exploring? Like human existence? Technology and consciousness?
TM: You're quite good with Kansai dialect! You can switch back to standard Japanese now. As for the themes, it's about how galaxies and stars were born from space-time itself, how various materials evolved from the stars, and eventually life emerged. I believe that the possibility-or even the necessity-of life was already embedded in space-time from the beginning. Then life evolved on Earth, leading to humanity, who built towns and cities. In those cities, artists and philosophers live and contemplate various things.
For example, at Cinq bis Rue de Verneuil in the 7th arrondissement of Paris, there's a graffiti-covered house where the artist Serge Gainsbourg once lived. I wonder, what was he thinking, what was he aiming for? Some of the lyrics explore thoughts like that.
Also, for the album cover, I had AI, specifically Midjourney, create the artwork. (To be continued...)
Artist Profile
Tetsuya Matsushita
When I was very small, I played drums in the garden at home using buckets or whatever I could find. The neighborhood ladies praised me for it. At the age of 13, I picked up parts from an old electronic organ and remade them into a DIY synthesizer. Next, I made my own electric drums and electric guitar. Using two open reel tape recorders from Sony, I began experimenting with multitrack recording. In 1985, I produced my first cassette album by myself. It included a drum machine, hand-played synthesizers, and even seventh chords. In many ways, what I was doing back then is not so different from now. After that, I made three more cassette albums and went into a long period of rest. Around 2000, I formed a band with friends and stayed active for about two years, then paused again. In 2013, I became active again, then paused. In 2017, I resumed activity once more, then paused again. In 2023, I started remastering my past works. In 2024, I began using AI. In 2025, I completed an album to mark my 40th anniversary. I may go quiet again after this. Looking back, maybe my songwriting was always like creating demo tapes. I felt that someday, someone else would take these songs, perform them properly, translate them, sing them, and finish them for real. It is as if my songs were preserved in a kind of frozen sleep. Thanks to AI and streaming technology, they have now been awakened and released into the world. I feel deeply moved. Even though I am just an amateur and there were many long gaps, I am truly glad I kept creating for forty years and was finally able to complete it.
