SOMAOTA is the MC of the HipHop collective "Black petrol", whose performance at SUMMER SONIC 2023 is still fresh in our minds, and also performed as a solo artist at "Neon Oasis Fest.'24" in Taiwan.

DUCK HOUSE has been gaining attention, including an appearance at the Nakatsugawa SOLAR BUDOKAN in Gifu Prefecture, Japan in 2023.

The EP "Lost Humanity" is a supreme alternative hip-hop with a taste of Experimental Jazz after Robert Glasper, similar to Sen Morimoto and Unknown Mortal Orchestra. It was created with the message that people living in a society that has lost its humanity and become mechanized should look back and reconsider their own lives.

For the sound, we placed importance on a groove that makes the listener's body move and dance naturally.
We feel that the best way to regain the physicality that we usually neglect is to dance to the music.
Lyrically, the song is about the importance of first becoming aware of the abnormality of the society in which we live, and then recovering our "humanity" through what we can do.

Artist Profile

SOMAOTA
Born and raised in Miyamaedaira, Kawasaki, Kanagawa, SOMAOTA is a Tokyo-based MC and solo artist, and a member of the Kansai-based hip-hop collective Black petrol. He has performed at major festivals including SUMMER SONIC 2023 and FUJI ROCK FESTIVAL '24. As a solo artist, he has also appeared at festivals both in Japan and overseas, including Taiwan's Neon Oasis Fest. '24 and Yui no Oto 2025. To date, SOMAOTA has released four albums and EPs, including his representative work Nori Nori Daze, along with numerous singles. Guided by the belief that life and music are inseparable, he transforms the contradictions, questions, and subtle discomforts he encounters in everyday life into music. After spending approximately seven years based in Kansai, SOMAOTA relocated to Tokyo in 2024 to pursue music on a full-time basis. On November 29 of the same year, he held his first solo concert, SOMAOTA ONE-MAN SHOW Trans, which was a success. Since 2025, he has actively expanded his creative scope through collaborations that transcend genres and borders. His work includes Alter Ego feat. Sora Oto with Funny Factures, readme.txt with Taiwanese R&B singer Malpaca, and Stay or Play? and AHA with Nagoya-based instrumental band QOOPIE. On June 10, 2026, SOMAOTA released the collaborative album Duck's Diary with DUCK HOUSE. The music video for its lead single Sakasa feat. Fuki Kitamura is currently available.

DUCK HOUSE
DUCK HOUSE is an alternative band that began in April 2022 as a share house and music project based in Daikokucho, Osaka. The group originally started as a trio consisting of SOMAOTA (MC), Oumi (Pf, Vo), and INUI (Ba). Through a series of self-organized events, the band gradually gained attention and performed at the 2023 edition of the NAKATSUGAWA SOLAR BUDOKAN festival. They have released several singles and, in 2024, unveiled their EP Lost Humanity. In August 2025, the band relocated to Tokyo to pursue its musical activities more seriously. They released the single Visitor in December 2025, followed by their first full-length album, Duck Diary, on June 10, 2026. Around the same time, founding member SOMAOTA departed from the band, and Tsuru-Sho joined as the new drummer, establishing the band current lineup. The band first album, Duck Diary, was created around the theme of life and music. Its title was inspired by the Japanese lifestyle magazine Kurashi no Techo, to which the band pays tribute.
