A silent bird trapped inside a cage

By the window, I catch a glimpse

Of the world outside, and I wonder

My little world feels so small

The false sky above

Seems so easy to reach

But in truth, it stretches

So high and wide

And yet

It seems I’ll never reach it

With a voice that won’t be heard

I sing with all my might

Of course, there’s no one there

Still, if it reaches someone

Would they notice me

Just a little, maybe?

Time drifts slowly by

Enough for me to forget

Everything I once held

When was it I was left behind?

You never wake

So I wait alone

No more familiar voices

No “good morning” or “good night”

Here, I’ll never hear

Them again

Someday, over there

If we meet again

You’ll call my name once more, right?

Then I’ll fly freely around you

Perching on your branch

Just like before

I’ll sing with all my heart

Until you grow tired of me

Now, as long as this life

Keeps on breathing

I’ll weave my poems

So I won’t forget

The happiness I’ve known

I’ll somehow squeeze out my voice

Hoping it will reach you

If I could sing again

Just like I did back then

Would you notice me
