IR releases his third digital single, "Underneath."
Rooted in the influence of 2000s emo and post-hardcore - core elements of his musical background - the track explores "a twisted yet undeniable sense of love and longing," delivered through lyrical melodies, driving energy, and fully English lyrics.
Active since 2014, IR has consistently released cover songs and original material primarily on YouTube. His cover of "Day After Day" from the Armored Core series surpassed one million views, earning recognition among both game fans and rock listeners in Japan and overseas.
"Underneath" marks his third original digital single, and his 19th overall release including cover works shared online.
Sonically, the track draws from the lineage of emo and post-hardcore acts such as The Used and Taking Back Sunday, while reconstructing those influences with a contemporary production aesthetic.
Guitars and bass were produced in a home DAW environment, with vocals recorded in a rehearsal studio, reflecting an independent DIY workflow. Mixing and mastering were handled by Yukinori Odanai (delie Studio), an engineer with experience under producer Kenta Matsukuma and a portfolio spanning both major and independent artists as well as commercial projects.
The result aims to balance the dynamic intensity characteristic of emo with a clean, modern sonic profile.
A lyric video will premiere on YouTube simultaneously with the digital release.
The track is presented as a new offering for Japanese listeners who grew up on Western rock, as well as fans of emo and alternative rock worldwide.
