17 years old and a liar

Japanese alternative rock band VELTPUNCH will release a new digital single, "17 years old and Liar"
This is their first new song in two and a half years, following the release of 'Frog Song / Merry Go Round Girl' in 2022, the band's 25th anniversary year.
In 2023 and 2024, they held special solo live concerts featuring songs selected from their three albums, and now, the curtain is finally rising on a new full-fledged chapter.

The 2010s emo revival and the success of the anime BOCCHI THE ROCK! have contributed to a surge of young alternative bands in live houses. VELTPUNCH, a long-established pioneer in the scene, is now experiencing a resurgence and gaining momentum for reevaluation.
Aiko Nakajima's presence is particularly noteworthy today, as bands with female vocals have become the mainstay of the scene, unlike in the 1990s and 2000s.

The two new songs meet the expectations of the scene, featuring twin guitar interplay between Hidenori Naganuma and Shinichiro Arakawa, edgy hardcore rhythms by Aiko and Naoki Asama, and the grunge-tinged 'Liar,' which stands out as the most distinctive track on the album, with twin vocals from Naganuma and Aiko.

The mid-tempo track '17 Years Old,' featuring twin male and female vocals, is also excellent.

The two new songs are well suited to meet the expectations of the scene, with twin guitar interplay between Hidenori Naganuma and Shinichiro Arakawa, VELTPUNCH's signature, and edgy hardcore rhythms by Aiko and Naoki Asama, as well as the grunge-tinged "Liar" which is the most distinctive feature of the album, and the twin vocals of Naganuma and Aiko. The mid-tune "17 Years Old," featuring the twin male and female vocals is also excellent.

The lyrics of '17 Years Old' mix a love of music with cynicism, as seen in lines like 'I'll never hate your cheap rock' and 'Even heroes crave monetary rewards more than respect and sympathy.' Naganuma's all-out shout of 'worst!' symbolizes that VELTPUNCH still holds a special place in the hearts of teenagers, which is why they are respected by younger generations.

The year 2025 marks the 25th anniversary of the release of their first album, when we drive, and expectations are high for their 10th original album, which will follow Suicide King released in 2020.
