ikigai - The 1st Album Front Cover

Lyric

i love my freckles

Kumika Hashimoto

I love my freckles, but no, they don’t

I love my freckles, it’s my charm point

Some people like it, did you know?

If they don’t like it, it means they’re just not part of your culture

You’re living in a broader world

So let’s live in it, and make it ours

I love my freckles, I know they want it

I love my freckles, and my charm point

So people like it, bet you noticed

If they don’t like it, it means they’re just not part of your culture

’Cause somewhere else, people are trying to have it

So let’s live in it, and make it ours

I love my freckles, and now they want it

I love my freckles, and my charm point

Outro - No Life Without ____

    Kumika Hashimoto

As an artist who values living by her own axis, she crafted her 1st album after graduating from Waseda University and moving to New York to study at an art school while writing, composing, and designing artwork herself.
When we take time, move at our own pace, and continue working toward our goals,
the things we once couldn't do slowly become possible.
Built from the emotions experienced along her path and her quiet resistance to the world, this album speaks to what she felt compelled to express through living.
'Each achievement becomes a doorway to the next challenge.
As long as we stay connected to our inner axis, we can grow countless new branches.
And the 'ikigai' we find evolves and matures as we continue living.'
This idea became the foundation for the album cover: a branching tree formed from each track's waveform, symbolizing the way our lives grow, diverge, and continue forward.

Artist Profile

  • Kumika Hashimoto

Kumika Hashimoto is a New York based artist born in the UK, raised in Tokyo. She does all the steps herself from songwriting to artwork for the music, and is also active in the design field. After graduating from Waseda University in Japan, she studies graphic design at Fashion Institute of Technology in New York. She started composing music on her own while attending Waseda University, creating original songs ranging from ballads to electronic pop and R&B with themes such as what she felt in everyday life, and questions about society and common sense. From her experience learning classical piano since childhood, she is good at creating refrain melodies. Having several study abroad experiences, she even enjoys listening to the little differences in pronunciation and spelling for each language, and she studied linguistics and Japanese language education (holds a qualification called JLTCT), therefore she puts importance on how lyrics sound. Also, when studying in Iowa State as an exchange student, she took acting class to learn expressions. After her viral hit of 'hot chocolate in new york', she has garnered over 1 million views across social media and continues to gain international attention. Her recent release 'LA*PPY' captures the joy of Los Angeles and has been featured by Hollywood actors.
