The Finest Satan was born from a personal project known as
the dictionary journey, based on the seventh edition of Kojien,
Japan's most authoritative Japanese dictionary.
This song draws directly from the entries spanning
"satan" to "the finest," and the reflections that emerged along the way.
By tracing definitions, etymologies, and usages,
a deeper question surfaced:
where exactly is the boundary between good and evil,
justice and judgment?
Here, Satan is not portrayed as a simple symbol of evil.
Rather, he appears as a structure
something historically required for "righteousness"
to define and justify itself.
Saving someone often means excluding someone else.
Under the name of order, breath is quietly taken away.
Behind beautifully worded decisions,
there always stands a presence in the shadows.
This work does not condemn Satan.
Nor does it affirm justice.
Starting from Kojien
a collection of language striving for neutrality
the song traces the outlines of value systems
humans have continuously constructed.
Not the one who is judged,
but the one who accepts the role
that allows judgment to function
that is the Satan depicted in this song.
That is
The Finest Satan.
