"Carpe diem" portrays two conflicting emotions: the desire to return to the days once shared with someone you loved, and the hope that they will let go of the past and live fully in the present.
Memories of time spent together, smiles captured in photographs, and the loneliness of living in separate worlds are expressed through a melancholic piano that eventually gives way to raw, distorted guitars.
By the end of the story, the narrator no longer asks for the past to return. Instead, he wishes for the person he loved to embrace life, new passions, new love, and happiness even if one day their smile belongs to someone else.
Carpe diem. Seize the day. Live now.
