Lyric

Cold hands

Warm light

One promise

Tonight

The year is folding into snow

Calendars with nowhere left to go

We count the things we couldn’t say

And laugh at plans that slipped away

You say the days went by too fast

I say, “Somehow, we made them last”

In every ordinary scene

You were the quiet part with me

No grand vow, no silver ring

Just your voice in everything

Asking, “Will you still be here

When the new year finds us?”

Make me a promise in December

Nothing too perfect, nothing too loud

Just say you’ll walk with me tomorrow

When the Christmas lights come down

Make me a promise in December

When the year is almost through

If the future starts uncertain

Let me start it next to you

Oh-oh, one more winter

Oh-oh, one more spring

Oh-oh, if we’re together

That’s enough for anything

We saved the photos, lost the receipts

Missed some trains and changed some dreams

Had a few nights we nearly broke

Then found our way back through a joke

I don’t need the perfect road

I just need your hand to hold

If next year bends in ways we don’t know

Let’s be kind and take it slow

The snow begins outside the store

You pull your coat around me more

And I can feel the answer there

Before you say it

Make me a promise in December

Nothing too perfect, nothing too loud

Just say you’ll walk with me tomorrow

When the Christmas lights come down

Make me a promise in December

When the year is almost through

If the future starts uncertain

Let me start it next to you

Not forever like a movie line

Not every day will turn out bright

But if we choose each other still

In quiet ways, I think we will

When January fills the street

With brand-new steps beneath our feet

I’ll remember how you smiled

And promised one more little while

Make me a promise in December

Not to be fearless, just to stay

Through the ordinary mornings

After all the songs fade away

Make me a promise in December

Soft enough to still be true

When the future starts uncertain

I’ll be starting next to you

Oh-oh, one more winter

Oh-oh, one more spring

Oh-oh, if we’re together

That’s enough for anything

Cold hands

Warm light

One promise

Goodnight
