Last year, I visited Suomenlinna Island in Finland.
Once a sea fortress where cannons and military facilities were placed, the island has now become a quiet everyday landscape, where a gentle sea breeze flows, people relax on the grass, and children run between historic stone walls.

This work was born from a deep impression of this transformation, a place once built for war becoming a landscape of peace.

The recording took place in Reykjavík, Iceland, and the strings feature a string quartet led by violinist Una Sveinbjarnardóttir, a highly respected figure in the contemporary Icelandic music scene and an essential collaborator in works by Björk and Jóhann Jóhannsson. Their delicate and organic string performance gives the music depth and a breathing texture.

This work crosses the fields of post-classical, ambient, contemporary music, environmental music, minimal music, electronica, and classical music, and presents silence itself as music.
It is a piece with spatiality and emotional space.
