Lyric

You brush a leaf off of your sleeve

And tell me of your day

You used to reach up for my hand

Before we crossed this street

I almost reach for yours again

Then listen as you speak

Same road, a different gold

The leaves beneath our feet

I start to say, “Remember when…”

You tell me something new

I let the old days wait a while

There’s more to hear from you

We reach the place we always turn

You point the other way

I nearly say, “Let’s head back home”

Then take that road with you

Same road, a different gold

The leaves beneath our feet

I start to say, “Remember when…”

You tell me something new

I let the old days wait a while

There’s more to hear from you

At home, a leaf falls from my coat

I press it in a book

I write the date beneath the leaf

Before I close it up

Same road, a different gold

Your footsteps next to mine

You tell me where you want to go

I ask you what it’s like

We pass the turn we always take

And talk a little longer

Same road

A different gold
