Artist Profile

  • KYO SAKURAI

An alternative human beatboxer who dissolves genre boundaries by looping and mixing voices and sounds, ranging from ethnic to electronic music. Most deeply inspired by the sounds of nature, his arrangements--filtered through his own pure inner cosmos--quietly awaken the natural senses that lie dormant within each listener. His live performances, honed through countless gigs across Japan, have transformed the dance floor with a unique, palpable intensity. He has toured Los Angeles, New York, Berlin, Australia, and Southeast Asia; the heartfelt sessions he shares with local artists, along with the local atmosphere and scenery, have become integral to his emotional sensibility. His cross-border activities continue to this day, including providing DJ mixes to overseas internet radio stations every other month. In recent years, alongside his work as a performer, he has been building his production environment from scratch and has begun creating new songs.
