Angle of the 8-Track is a mid tempo city pop track that portrays the slow accumulation of suspicion inside a car on a late night drive, and the quiet decision not to ask the question that would end everything.
A Friday midnight ride along Route 246, a passenger seat reclined at an angle someone else left behind, an unfamiliar cartridge tucked inside the glove compartment, and the mechanical click of an 8-track switching channels create a confined atmosphere where traces of absence speak louder than any confrontation.

Performed by the fictional AI singer Akemi, the song captures the emotions of adulthood that chooses silence over confirmation, not out of weakness, but because asking would turn suspicion into certainty and certainty into an ending she is not ready to name.
Inspired by the late 1970s to early 1980s Japanese new music and city pop, the track reimagines that era intimate lyricism through images of nighttime drives, dashboard silence, and the unspoken negotiations that happen between two seats in a moving car.

The hand that once adjusted the passenger seat every time finally stops reaching. She does not remove the cartridge she does not recognize, only closes the glove compartment and watches the signal turn green, carrying forward into a night where her fingertips already know what her voice refuses to say.

  • Akemi

A music project that reimagines the melancholic mood and nighttime glow of late 1970s to early 1980s Japanese City Pop and New Music through AI-assisted production and human direction. Akemi is a fictional singer with a backstory of being from Yamato City, Kanagawa, Japan. She sings of urban solitude, grown-up love, and bittersweet afterglow in a noir-tinged city pop sound. Lyrics, composition, vocals, and visuals are created using generative tools and curated through editing. This is an experimental project exploring the human warmth and nostalgia that can emerge from AI.
