Takefuji Drums
Takefuji Drums is an instrumental solo project by a Tokyo-based drummer and composer. Every song begins with the drums. Rather than fitting rhythm around a melody, meter, repetition, and rhythmic structure come first, with melody and texture layered on top. There are no lyrics. Instead of expressing ideas through words, the music leaves them to rhythm itself. The quiet of post-rock, the shifting meters of math rock, and the sense of space found in jazz. Polyrhythms and odd meters are central to the music, while the overall sound remains restrained, making room for repetition, dynamics, and silence.
