Artist Profile

  • MASUMI

Masumi Tsunoda (b. 1989) has been performing as a singer and songwriter since the age of six. Born in the United States, she moved to Japan in 1994 where she played wadaiko and toured with the band, Kochoran. For almost nine years, she toured Japan and France to play for audiences of thousands at music festivals. By the young age of fourteen, not only had she already realized her passion for singing but altruism as well. Masumi would eventually travel to the remote regions of Vietnam, Thailand and Malaysia where she volunteered her efforts to help underprivileged and poverty-stricken communities. In 2011, she returned to the United States where she enrolled and graduated from the world-class music school, Los Angeles Music Academy (LAMA). Masumi's sultry, contralto vocal style was inspired by her favorite contemporaries, India Arie and KT Tunstall. Her music was also greatly influenced by the likes of Tracy Chapman, Norah Jones, Corinne Bailey Rae and Jack Johnson.
