I performed "Lord Inchiquin" on the tin whistle and Irish flute. It is a work by the 18th-century blind Irish harper and composer, Turlough O'Carolan (1670-1738).
O'Carolan made his living traveling across Ireland, visiting nobles and landowners to dedicate tunes to them. This piece was dedicated to William O'Brien (1694-1777, 4th Earl of Inchiquin), a member of the prominent O'Brien family in County Clare.
The Earl inherited his title in 1719 and was active as a Whig politician. It is said that O'Carolan dedicated this piece during a visit to the Earl's residence, Dromoland Castle, in County Clare.
The piece is an elegant waltz-style tune in 3/4 time, featuring a melody well-suited for the harp. It is listed as No. 58 in the complete works of O'Carolan (ed. O'Sullivan, 1958).
