Japanese melodic death metal band, BEREAVED 1st mini-album "What the wolf brings".
BEREAVED is a melodic death/thrash metal band from Japan, formed in 1997. Blending the aggression and relentless momentum of death and thrash metal with dark, melancholic melodies, twin-guitar harmonies, and intense blast beats, BEREAVED has developed a distinctive sound rooted in the spirit of early Swedish death metal while maintaining its own uncompromising identity. The band released its first demo, *Reclaim*, in 2001, which gained international attention after being selected by the French metal magazine *Metallian* as one of its top unsigned bands of the year. In 2004, BEREAVED independently released the EP *What the Wolf Brings*. The band later signed with French label Deadsun Records. Their first full-length album, *The Spirit Driven by Hate*, was released in 2006, followed by their second album, *The Cries of the Penitent*, in 2010. After years of activity, the band went on hiatus in 2012. BEREAVED returned to active duty in 2019 and, after more than a decade without a new full-length release, unleashed their third album, *Unleashed Abyss*, through Repentless Records in 2024. With razor-sharp riffs, fierce blast beats, haunting melodies, and an unmistakably dark atmosphere, BEREAVED continues to forge its own path through the Japanese extreme metal scene.
