All music for the Netflix drama series "The Makanai: Cooking for the Maiko House" was produced by Yoko Kanno. This is the original soundtrack which has 32 tracks.
The opening and the ending theme feature the simple, beautiful humming of the main character Kiyo (Nana Mori). Yoko played the piano and the other musicians are well-known in her works.
These 32 songs deliciously color the miracles of ordinary days.
Based on the famous comic by Aiko Koyama, which won the 65th Shogakukan Manga Award and has sold over 2.7 million copies, this drama was planned by Genki Kawamura and directed by Hirokazu Koreeda, one of Japan's leading film directors.
This is the second experience Yoko Kanno has worked with Koreeda since "Umimachi diary".
Lyric and song writer, arranger and music producer. Yoko has created music for movies, TV dramas, TV commercials, animation and video games. She has produced and written music for many artists as well. Her masterpieces include "Cowboy Bebop", "Genesis of Aquarion", "Macross Frontier", "Ghost in the Shell:Stand Alone Complex", the movie "Our Little Sister", and the NHK historical TV drama "Naotora: The Lady Warlord", etc. She also composed the great eastern Japan earthquake (Fukushima) recovery support song, "Flowers Will Bloom - Hana wa Saku -", in which she made many different arrangements. In the first year of the new Reiwa era, she composed the Japanese emperor's enthronement celebration song, "Ray of Water", and dedicated the performance to the emperor and the empress in front of the imperial palace. The third movement of this song, "Journey to Harmony", is recorded in the mini CD "Kite" by Arashi. Her latest works are the music for the Netflix versions of "Cowboy Bebop" and "The Makanai: Cooking for the Maiko House".
