Come as you were

Stay as you will

Right where you are

Come as you were

Stay as you will

Right where you are

Come as you were

Stay as you will

Right where you are

Come as you were

Stay as you will

Right where you are

I thought I saw you on the comedown

Holy mold under your nightgown

Can I be your lord and saviour

When we reach a system failure

Maybe we can change the ending

Come as you were

Stay as you will

Right where you are

(Come as you were

Stay as you will

Right where you are)

Come as you were

Stay as you will

Right where you are

(Where you are, now)

Come as you were

Stay as you will

Right where you are

Come as you were

Stay as you will

Right where you are

Fallout glimmering at sundown

Your eyes like windows in the foreground

Can I be your lord and saviour

(Can I be your lord and saviour)

When we reach a system failure

Maybe we can change the ending

(Maybe we can change...)

(Maybe we can change the ending)

I know the future is our last hope

(Is our last hope)

I know the future is a deepfake

I wish you were with me for its last wake

I wish you were here for my last wake

DEEPFAKE is about robots falling in love at the end of the world. Taking inspiration from cyberpunk and the world of Blade Runner, the first release from the new Tokyo/Osaka based band DRAWSTRING, explores themes of fakeness, nihilism and blurs the lines between human and machine emotion, reflecting a nihilistic vision of love in an era dominated by artificial consciousness.

Artist Profile

  • DRAWSTRING

DRAWSTRING is a collaborative duo formed in 2024 by SOMBRA and BLACKUR0, two active solo artists based in Japan. SOMBRA, a musician and producer originally from Canada, blends influences from 90s alternative grunge & industrial with underground house and trip-hop. The resulting music is introspective and claustrophobic, yet diverse and colourful, with his signature dynamic performances resonating with audiences in Tokyo's music scene and beyond. Solo singer-songwriter and music creator BLACKUR0 is known for her genre-spanning approach and impressive track record as a composer. The compositions feature intricate song structures, soaring choruses, and rich analog synthesizer layers, all underscored by her signature catchy yet melancholic melodies. The two share a distorted sound and a dark, aggressively moody style of expression, combining to craft a cyberpunk-esque dystopia that channels negative emotion into powerful, transformative energy.
