Violinist | Singer-Songwriter | Producer Shizuka Kashima is a Japanese violinist, singer-songwriter, and producer known for her dynamic performances that transcend both genres and national borders. Challenging conventional perceptions of the violin as a purely classical instrument, she captivates audiences through innovative and expressive performances in Japan and around the world. She began studying the violin at the age of five and started her professional career as a violinist at eighteen while attending Osaka University of Arts. At twenty-four, she made her major-label debut as a member of a band whose music was featured as an ending theme for the popular TV Tokyo anime series *NARUTO*. She later launched a successful solo career. As a soloist, Shizuka has performed on world tours with Grammy Award-winning composer and musician Kitaro, and has appeared as a guest performer at solo concerts by Yoko Takahashi, internationally known for performing the theme songs of *Neon Genesis Evangelion*. Throughout her career, she has collaborated with numerous leading artists across a wide range of musical styles. Following the Great East Japan Earthquake in 2011, Shizuka began a long-term project supporting her hometown of Higashimatsushima through the arts. She now provides career education programs and hands-on musical experiences to more than 4,000 children each year. Together with New Zealand artist, composer, and scholar Dr. Stephen Small, she is engaged in creative projects, performances, and research exploring the role of the arts in disaster recovery and community resilience.
