It has been one month since the 2026 Kumamoto Earthquake struck.
MASATAKA-a practicing physician and rapper who continues his unique activities based in Kumamoto-has released the song "Kochira Kumamoto," which focuses on recovery from the disaster, alongside Maiki and Daddy K (Mamushi MC's), who are also based in Kumamoto. A music video for the song was also released.

"Right from the moment the disaster struck, there were people around me working tirelessly to provide support, and thanks to them, daily life is gradually returning to normal. It was an opportunity for me to reaffirm my respect for the people working up a sweat under the blazing sun, where temperatures exceeded 40°C. And when I thought about what I could do, I realized it was to make music. For this project, I invited Daddy K, a rapper who represents Kumamoto, and Maiki, who lives in Mashiki Town-the epicenter of the previous Kumamoto earthquake-to express the meaning and possibilities that a span of 10 years holds," says MASATAKA.

It has been 10 years since the 2016 Kumamoto Earthquake.
In Kumamoto, which was struck by another major earthquake at this milestone, this work focuses not only on the "disaster" itself but also on the people trying to rebuild their lives, those providing support, and those who continue to live in their hometowns.

The music video was directed by Cota Ono, a filmmaker based in Kumamoto City who has roots in Matsuhashi, one of the areas hardest hit by the disaster. While capturing scenes of actual relief efforts delivering supplies to the disaster-stricken areas, the video portrays the current state of Kumamoto in the aftermath of the earthquake.

"Kochira Kumamoto" serves as a message of recovery sent to their hometown by artists living in Kumamoto, each from their own unique perspective.
