Lyric

breath

Aesteroid, Steroid

Breath

Breath

"Breath"

"Breath"

Please watch the music video first-just dive in. Now on Asteroid's YouTube channel.
This track is the theme song for breath, an animated work by visual creator Muto Nosaka. Released on October 26, 2023 under my former name "Steroid" (that is, Nakamoto Sora), the song bears the raw skid marks of the struggles I carried at the time.

Nosaka, who directed the music videos for my former band, Ianyokō, took a deep liking to this piece and-through what can only be called a reckless, blood-sweating act-made the offer to create its MV himself. My heart lies often, so let me speak from the soul: I am profoundly grateful. His portrayal of human figures-charming yet disturbingly vivid-always presses right up against your sightline.

The mix and master were handled by my longtime ally, rhope. Over years spent working closely together, the evolution of his sound has become astonishingly clear. While the recorded tracks are the same as back then, the sonic texture has become noticeably more refined than the original. I hope you'll compare it with the Steroido versions ("breath" and "DMT,,, (breath)"). To me, he is the very embodiment of one who "cherishes meaning."

The lyrics were revised in 2024 to match the feelings I carried then-responses to pains long gone and rusted over, and reactions to the new pains that replaced them. Fearing accusations of failed eloquence, I lay down this pre-emptive disclaimer here. Please watch the music video first-just dive in. Now on Asteroid's YouTube channel.

  • Steroid

Sora Nakamoto. A man without problems, in all respects. A rebellious spirit. Born in Chiba Prefecture. He has gone by the name Steroid since his elementary school days. At 15, he picked up the guitar and dove headfirst into songwriting. His high school band was called Dogra Magra. Like the protagonist of that tale, his memories are hazy misunderstood, but only because of love. At 18, he entered university to study philosophy. His professor once said, I hate Dadaism. Sora was the main songwriter and lyricist in the band Comfort Trip. Among the members at the time was the stormy genius from Nagano, Ousuke Hagino. In the spring of 2024, Hagino recognized Nakamoto`s raw talent, and together they formed Steroid. Ah, the beauty of spring. Later, Hagino invited drummer Aoi Sato, and Nakamoto brought in keyboardist Takuju Matsumura, completing the current lineup. Farewell, beloved 20th century. This is music for those living through the madness of the 21st. Written by: Takuju Matsumura
