Kenny S., a.k.a. GEISHAMAN, is the grandson of Enju, who was once said to be the most traditional Edo geisha. His grandfather was Sakyo Kineya, a master of Nagauta (a style of traditional Japanese music), and his grandmother was Katoo Kineya, a shamisen player. He grew up in a family deeply rooted in traditional Japanese music.

During his childhood, he was raised in a peculiar family environment where Colonel Russel C. Jackson of the U.S. Air Force, who was not related by blood, became his grandfather. He was influenced by the American music of the 1960s and 1970s that flowed from the U.S. military radio station FEN (Far East Network), which was always on in the kitchen.

He began his career as a solo artist and later joined EZO ROCK AMATO, a band directly mentored by the Chuck Berry Band, in Sapporo's oldest live bar. They performed cover songs of classic rock based on American music and released original tracks. After two and a half years with the band, he left and put his music activities on hold to start a tattoo studio called MOUNTAIN HIGH TATTOO WORKS in Sapporo.

After 16 years of silence, he resumed his music career under the name Kenny S. as a composer, guitarist, and visual creator.

Artist Profile

  • Kenny.S .a.k.a. GEISHAMAN

Kenny.S a.k.a GEISHA-MAN is a descendant of Enju, a renowned Edo geisha from the Yanagibashi district. Originally from Tokyo and currently residing in Hokkaido, he is an interior, music, and visual creator, as well as the CEO of birbs Inc. He grew up in a peculiar family environment where his grandfather was Colonel Russel C. Jackson, a music-loving U.S. Air Force officer with no blood relation. He was heavily influenced by the American music of the 1960s and 1970s broadcasted from the Far East Network radio station, which was always on in the background, and he picked up the guitar. From a young age, he exhibited an unusual obsession with sound, recording natural sounds in mountains, fields, and rivers after school with a stereo recorder and stereo microphone. He would bring the recordings home, listen to them with headphones in his room, and engage in solitary play, imagining the scenes from when he recorded them. He began his career as a solo artist and later joined EZO ROCK AMATO, a band directly mentored by Chuckberry Rock'n'Roll Band, the oldest live bar in Sapporo, as a guitarist and vocalist. They performed covers of classic rock based on American music and released original songs, completing over 100 live performances each year for two years. With the theme of "delivering the beauty of music to as many people as possible and liberating live music," he founded a sound production company called Hibikiya Sohonpo. He organized free live performances in places like Odori Park, Sapporo Station Square, Sapporo Beer Garden, and in front of the pedestrian paradise at Seichuan. While operating the sound production himself, he also performed on stage as a guitarist and vocalist. After performing over 100 live shows annually and two and a half years of intense band activities, he left the band due to personal circumstances, leading to a freeze in his music activities. He then started a tattoo studio called MOUNTAIN HIGH TATTOO WORKS in Sapporo. In October 2024, he resumed his music activities. He is now linking his design work, which he conducts as a business, with his previously frozen music activities, combining them with his original specialty in interior design to present his work as an "Interior, Music, and Visual Creator."
