When I started composing the music, I had the image of expressing the unique heat of Kyoto in summer.
However, I learned that Higashi Honganji Temple had recovered from four fires and that they have left KEDUNA,a rope woven from women's hair and hemp, which was made to be a stronger rope to transport the huge timbers needed for the rebuilding. I chose the theme of "Prayer" to reflect on the hair rope, which is a symbol of life that has connected history to the present.
One day, while strolling in the precincts of the temple, I was inspired by "Kyoto = Today's Sound", the Japanese reading of "Today's Sound" is "Kyo-no-oto," which contains the sound of Kyoto. Then I recorded the sounds of the hustle and bustle, gravel, bells, birdsong, etc. on site and put them to music.
I want to express my gratitude for "being here now" through music.
