With a father from Ghana and a mother of Japanese background, he was exposed to a variety of cultures from an early age. He started playing the cello at the age of six, and at the age of 15 he began making music comprehensively using a combination of computers and live instruments. While studying authentic classical music through residencies in Ontario and Montreal, he was strongly influenced by the diverse music he heard there, including street and club culture.
