In Japan, March 3 is Hina-matsuri (the Doll Festival). It is a Japanese annual event to pray for the healthy growth of young girls by displaying several dolls dressed in courtly costumes. In the days when the medical system was not in place, the mortality rate of children was high, and the custom of decorating dolls to protect children from misfortune is said to have led to the Hina-matsuri.
This song is an original composition for a mother who is expecting a baby girl. It is a lullaby that she sings for herself and her unborn daughter while talking to the child in her tummy. The feeling of waiting for that day is one of the happiest moments in life, as the anxiety and anticipation of raising a child intersects with each other.
This piece was arranged and performed by Makoto Shigehiro.
