In this piece, Mikawa and Tsuji used various techniques to modulate the signal. Mikawa's use of digital signal processing on an analog sound source and Tsuji's use of analog and digital signal processing are distinctly different and unique. In recent years, Mikawa's live performances, where he manually manipulates multiple oscillators and other devices, have been well-received by audiences. In this work, recordings of these live performances are imported to a computer as sound source material and modulated using a variety of applications. The tones created by cutting up and layering are complex and dynamic. Tsuji has developed his own synthesizer system. The system mainly consists of a computer, a universal serial bus (USB) device, a line selector, a filter, and a mixer. The filter modulates the output signal of pulse width modulation from the USB device. The analog filter can perform frequency modulation and amplitude modulation to create complex tones. Additionally, the analog filter's output signal is fed into a digital filter for added modulation. The timbre is further enriched by the automatic performance of the computer and the manual operation of the analog filter.

  • Dissecting Table

Ichiro Tsuji was born in 1966. He started working on noise/industrial music for his band named "Dissecting Table" in Tokyo in 1986. He returned to his hometown of Hiroshima in 1998, and has been pursuing musical activities ever since. His records and compact disks have been released under the independent label of the UPD organization, and under labels in Europe and the United States. In the first and middle stage of his career he controlled the synthesizer and sampler by the sequencer, but since 2012, the works have been produced by controlling PWM signals output from a USB device on a computer. Lately the work is being made by developing an original synthesizer system.
