A Beautiful Lie" is a song inspired by Murasaki Shikibu, the Heian-period writer associated with The Tale of Genji, and by the emotional world of classical Japanese court literature.
Rather than portraying romance as something purely beautiful, the song looks at what may exist beneath elegant words, gentle smiles, silence, and longing.
Sometimes people call something love because the truth is too painful to face.
Sometimes beauty becomes a way to protect a fragile heart.
Through imagery of moonlight, letters, incense, flowers, and quiet night rooms, A Beautiful Lie explores the space between truth and tenderness - and the feelings that remain hidden behind words.
