It’s nothing new, of course, nothing new

“Who hasn’t felt it?” — someone whispers after me

Suddenly I crave the pouring rain

A cup of tea, a blanket wrapped around me

To bury myself. To drift away. To think slowly

While raindrops fire against the windowpane

Petting the cat, who sprawls so proudly

Across pages of a book, torn and tattered in vain

Watching the raindrops tap a staccato on the eaves

Ignoring some important call

And remembering that life is made of little surprises

Some of which are meetings, some farewells

All the pain that tore me apart has faded

All those trials — just empty noise

And the cat, purring, lounging without purpose

Seems wiser than I in so many ways

And the rain outside, like cannon fire

Rumbles, laughs, echoes back to me:

“Your soul only needs a moment to warm

Just a cup of tea… and a blanket, that’s all you need.”

Just the rain…

Just the tea…

And the quiet comfort of a blanket…
