YAMATARO is a unit that creates original dance music, each track built from a single word one word, nothing more. For their debut release, they present a "geometric" dance number revolving around a mysterious object: the regular tetrahedron, where humor and groove intertwine.
[Analog warmth meets a unique play on words]
"Does it have one vertex?" "No."
The song unfolds entirely through this cryptic question-and-answer, lodging itself in your ear with addictive persistence. Rooted in late-'90s house, the sound is defined by minimal structures, raw textures and rolling grooves, fused with the singular sonority of the Japanese language.
The laid-back beat moves your body and fits any scene a late-night drive, a club floor, or drifting off to sleep. An essential listen for anyone in search of something new.
YAMATARO is a Japanese-language dance music project. Every track is built from a single word one word, nothing more. The motifs range from regular tetrahedron and crab to idea and Enma, King of Hell: unexpected, and endlessly varied. Rooted in late '90s house, the sound is defined by minimal structures, raw textures and rolling grooves, fused with the singular sonority of the Japanese language. The project is three unlikely members: Da yama, a Fuji Rock regular of more than twenty years who runs an onigiri shop in Tokyo; Da maru, a former comedian who bends words from his own peculiar angle; and Da guchi, a film director and screenwriter who weaves cinematic worlds.
