As "time travelers from that era," how can we move beyond the past and step into the future?
El Kijima's latest release, Under the Sky, offers one possible answer.
With just four strings of her ukulele, she sings of humanity's ongoing struggles - from the scars of past wars to today's global unrest - transcending time and borders.

Her message quietly seeps into the hearts of listeners, emerging as a modern anthem that captures the spirit of our times.

Artist Profile

  • Kijimael

Kijima El is a singer-songwriter who is gaining increasing attention both in Japan and overseas. With a voice that carries both clarity and melancholy, along with her distinctive ukulele expression, she has been steadily expanding her audience. Her Instagram following, which was around 900 in May of last year, grew to 30,000 as of February 2026, showing a rapid rise in recognition. Her self-written songs delicately portray inner landscapes that feel almost like prayers, resonating with listeners as music that gently accompanies their own memories and emotions. Her song Miyuki, released on February 6, 2026, was created around the theme of facing her name and destiny. The song was selected for NEW BORN J-POP, a playlist on KKBOX Taiwan, one of Taiwan's largest music streaming services, introducing emerging J-POP artists on the verge of breakthrough. In addition to being featured on the playlist, Kijima El was also selected as the banner artist, further increasing her visibility across Asia. Since May 15, she has been featured as the vocalist in Daihatsu's commercial Hataraku Watashi ni Daihatsu Mei. She is currently performing mainly in Shimokitazawa and Daikanyama. Her latest single, How are you doing?, was released on May 16.
