Candle Flicker is a mid tempo city pop track that portrays a late winter night at a Shinjuku hotel banquet, when the second round of a group dinner empties seat by seat and a man and a woman find themselves facing each other across a candelabra at the round table.
A large round table with white cloth, empty chair backs forming a circle of vacancy, a small flame trembling between two faces, a fingertip stopped just before touching the rim of a glass, and the moment when the wick is replaced by a fresh candle create a hushed scene where she chooses to leave before the new flame rises tall.

Performed by the fictional AI singer Akemi, the song captures the emotions of adulthood that refuses to say the words one more or when shall we meet again, and chooses to stand up on her own feet just before a distance becomes too close to name.
Inspired by the late 1970s to early 1980s Japanese new music and urban pop, the track reimagines that era urban lyricism through images of late banquet evenings, the small geography between two faces across a candle, and the careful timing of leaving before a new flame takes the room.

Before the fresh wick rises into a tall new flame, she lifts her coat from the back of the chair and leaves the table.
At the hotel entrance she turns up her collar and walks into the night while he goes the opposite way, and without naming what was between them she boards the last Odakyu train home toward Yamato.
