Artist Profile

• Takumi Uchida

  Takumi Uchida is a composer and artist from Fujisawa, Kanagawa, Japan. He graduated from the Department of Composition, Faculty of Music, Tokyo University of the Arts, and completed the MFA Program in Global Art Practice at the Graduate School of Fine Arts of the same university. He is currently a doctoral student in Design at the Graduate School of Fine Arts, Tokyo University of the Arts. He was homeschooled throughout all nine years of elementary and junior high school. Drawing on his own experiences, his interdisciplinary creative practice explores the concepts of ibasho, a place where one feels one belongs, and the sense of having such a place. As an educator, he also gives lectures and conducts workshops on futoko (school non-attendance). His major awards include Third Prize in the Composition Division of the 2023 Sogakudo Japanese Song Competition and the Tokyo University of the Arts President's Award (Grand Prix) at Tokyo Geidai ARTFES 2023. He is the author of Futoko Quest, published by Asuka Shinsha.
