"The Brain Is About 1300g"
is a piece born from the Dictionary Journey, Calligraphy, and Music project,
originating from the dictionary definition of "brain"
in the Japanese syllabary "no."
The creation began with a physical act:
writing out by hand every definition of "brain" and "nozui"
found in three dictionaries
Shinmeikai Kokugo Jiten, Meikyō Kokugo Jiten, and Kōjien.
Something that moves before thought.
Faster than what we call right,
quieter than what we call prayer.
This work gently lifts the fact
that humans live before they think
through words and sound.
About 1300 grams.
Not an idea.
Not a belief.
Just a weight that exists
inside the skull.
Onto the most sober layer of language dictionaries
a small dose of Nietzsche's idea of the Übermensch was added:
the impulse that precedes reason,
life as will before thought.
"The Brain Is About 1300g"
is a poetic document born from dictionaries,
observing life
that had already begun
before meaning, belief, or prayer could arise.
Kneeking Records is an independent music label that translates The Dictionary Journey into sound. The label was founded by Yoshihiro Sato, a calligrapher, a lifelong dictionary traveler, and a former kickboxing world champion. Since 2013, Yoshihiro has been reading dictionaries one page at a time writing, reflecting, and quietly documenting each newly discovered word. In 2025, these accumulated records began to take musical form. The Dictionary Journey is an ongoing exploration. With each passing day, new words are encountered, and their traces continue to grow steadily and without end. Kneeking Records spans a wide range of genres, including Reggae, J-Pop, R&B, Soul, House, Gospel, Funk, Ska, and at times, Punk Rock. While honoring the natural rhythm of language, the label pursues sound that is both refined and deeply listenable transforming the voice descending from calligraphy into music. That is the sound of Kneeking Records.
