I think it’s only way
To to be a harmless shade
So I can no longer hurt you
As I always did
Think you were once a worm
And then I was a bird
So many different attempts
That ends same
“we’ve tried so hard
Dear children”
They say
“we tried so hard
Over and over again...”
We’ll rather choose to sleep
Deep in the warm finale
Til we decay and melt down
I think it’s only way
To to be a harmless shade
So I can no longer hurt you
As I always did
Think you were once a worm
And then I was a bird
So many different attempts
That ends same
“we’ve tried so hard
Dear children”
They say
“we tried so hard
Over and over again...”
We’ll rather choose to sleep
Deep in the warm finale
Til we decay and melt down
In the water
In the water
たゆたうheat and beat
Only vapor
In the water
Sinking deeper
“時には思い出してね”
In the end
You can only hear the waves
In the water
たゆたうheat and beat
Only vapor
In the water
Sinking deeper
“時には思い出してね”

Waters
Albem
The theme of this work is "mimicry and parasitism". The aim was to impersonate and parasitize various objects such as existing pop music, vaporwave, shoegaze, and film music, and to generate something monstrous out of them. The result is a clearer and more poignant realization of the hyperactive and fractured song structures and layers of nostalgia and malevolent parody found in the previous work, "do you recognize me?"
Ableton Live was used for production, which involved a seamless process from demo production to recording and mixing. The members' recorded material and takes were retroactively edited and looped, and multiple edits were made until the impersonal nature of each piece of material was lost. The completed pieces were then further cut and reconnected.
As references, the project includes vaporwave tracks by death's dynamic shroud, catsystemcorp and Macintosh Plus, electronic music such as Arca and OPN, hip-hop tracks of Kanye West, shoegaze, J-pop, film music and others. J-Pop, film music, etc. were referenced (references are available as a playlist).
Artist Profile
Albem
Albem is a musical collective consisting of nozakimugai (vo, sound engineer), Shuhei Miyazaki (gt, sampler), Tomonori Sato (ba, synth), and Shigeru Furusawa (drums, programming). They create conceptual electronic music that crosses contexts such as post-modern philosophy, internet memes, and science fiction. The individual members are also involved in cross-border activities such as producing film accompaniment, participating in hip-hop crews, researching the architecture of music implementation, software engineering, and labor. Most recently, the single "Waters," released in September 2022, stirred up elements of vaporwave, hip-hop, film music, shoegaze, etc., with its divisive musicality. The album "continue?" is scheduled for release in December 2023. Analyzing the mood of society after the Corona Shock, they are working on the theme of "the body dancing in the void".
