SEATBELTS has done a virtual session of Real Folk Blues. New recording in 2020 sung by an original member, Mai Yamane.
A legendary superband led by composer, arranger, and music producer Yoko Kanno, known to occasionally descend upon Earth. They are best known for performing the theme "Tank!" from the anime COWBOY BEBOP. Although their activities date back to the late 19th century, they are highly elusive, and sightings are rare. The band name comes from the fact that, despite being hardcore session musicians, they wear seatbelts for safety when traveling through space. The lineup is fluid and often features some of Japan's top musicians, including a dog. Their next concert is planned for the 22nd century.
Lyric and song writer, arranger and music producer. Yoko has created music for movies, TV dramas, TV commercials, animation and video games. She has produced and written music for many artists as well. Her masterpieces include "Cowboy Bebop", "Genesis of Aquarion", "Macross Frontier", "Ghost in the Shell:Stand Alone Complex", the movie "Our Little Sister", and the NHK historical TV drama "Naotora: The Lady Warlord", etc. She also composed the great eastern Japan earthquake (Fukushima) recovery support song, "Flowers Will Bloom - Hana wa Saku -", in which she made many different arrangements. In the first year of the new Reiwa era, she composed the Japanese emperor's enthronement celebration song, "Ray of Water", and dedicated the performance to the emperor and the empress in front of the imperial palace. Recent works include the Netflix series "COWBOY BEBOP" (2021), "The Makanai: Cooking for the Maiko House" (2023, directed by Hirokazu Kore-eda), and the 2024 arrangement of "Kura Kura", performed by Ado.
