"Wanoway" is the first full-length album in three years from Japanese jazz band Amefurashi Quartet.
The album features 11 songs sung entirely in the Tsugaru dialect, a regional language from Aomori Prefecture in northern Japan. Blending jazz, folk, swing and pop influences, the band explores the unique rhythm, texture and musicality of spoken language itself.
Written by vocalist Takamichi Kasai, the songs reflect memories of hometown life, local culture, family, humor, nostalgia and the changing relationship between people and place. Rather than treating dialect as a theme, the album embraces it as a musical instrument.
"Wanoway" is both a celebration of regional identity and a contemporary interpretation of Japanese roots through original songwriting.

AMEFURASHIQUALTET
Amefurashi Quartet is a four-piece band from Aomori, Japan. Blending jazz, pop, and contemporary sounds, the band creates original music written and sung in the Tsugaru dialect, a unique regional language spoken in northern Japan. The band consists of Takamichi Kasai (Vocals), So Tanaka (Piano), Takashi Nozuki (Bass), and Takuya Sasaki (Drums). In June 2026, they released their full-length album "Wano Way," a collection of songs entirely performed in the Tsugaru dialect.
