Singer-songwriter hwamo will release her 3rd single "Urokogumo" on October 10, co-written with Rikuto Nagira, producer of the R&B unit lo-key design. Her first official music video will also premiere the same day at 7PM (JST).
The track is an emotional and alternative R&B breakup song, crafted over two years with Nagira. Blending the warmth of live instruments with a lo-fi texture, it delicately portrays the pain of parting with a loved one through a lyrical world that flows between Japanese, Korean, and English, set against the colors of autumn. It is a song that gently accompanies lonely nights and the twilight of the season.
The music video, directed by Korean filmmaker Suhwang, captures the lyrical essence of the song with striking visuals. The cover artwork is designed by Kaco, a fellow artist and dancer from hwamo's hometown. A limited 7-inch vinyl and release shows in Kansai are also planned, marking her next step as an artist.
hwamo is an Osaka-based singer-songwriter with roots in the Korean Peninsula. Growing up with traditional Korean folk music, hwamo became deeply influenced by Black music - including Hip-Hop, Jazz, and Soul - during teenage years, shaping a uniquely cross-cultural musical perspective. In 2020, hwamo began writing and producing original music during a period of COVID-19 hotel quarantine. After making a live debut at a Hip-Hop event in Kobe in 2022, hwamo has actively performed across the Kansai region, eventually releasing the 7-inch vinyl record "Urokogumo / Same night" in 2025. Seamlessly weaving through Japanese, Korean, and English lyrics, hwamo combines a mellow vocal delivery with a distinctive groove, capturing shifting emotions and the delicate space between light and shadow.
