I have been invited to perform as a street artist in various locations across Japan, Italy, Serbia, Germany, Romania, Saudi Arabia, Dubai, and South Korea. Street performers usually play famous songs that everyone knows that is the norm. I rejected that convention, choosing instead to perform my own original music on the street.
This album embodies the sensibilities and simultaneous performance techniques I honed on the street.
It contains 17 original tracks music that simply couldn't be fully expressed in a street performance setting. Is it the kind of quirky music that would make a clown jump for joy? Or is it music that fails to reach those accustomed to standard guitar, bass, and drum arrangements?
The word "new" is already old, and anyone can claim the "world" as their own simply by hopping on a plane.
There is music that merely imitates the past or foreign styles music that is all surface and exists only for the sake of social connections. Then there is original music born in the crushing depths of the ocean, flattened by the pressure. There is music and street performance that serves merely as a stress reliever easy for anyone to copy and take to the stage immediately.
And then there is music and street performance that is indestructible art that begins with a teacher at the age of two. EPPAIs new album, *Shini-mimi* (Dead Ear), was created by moving back and forth between the open street and the closed studio.
The true value of this CD lies beyond the music itself; if it were just about the music, digital streaming would suffice. This plastic disc comes with A5-sized sheet music for every track. Each page features a unique design hand-drawn by EPPAI himself. He even handled the entire recording process personally. Whether it is good or bad only those who buy the CD can find out.
