Artist Profile

  • JIN OKI

    Born in '74 in Japan. Jin Oki started playing electric guitar when he was 14. He played many kinds of music such as rock, blues and folk. When he was 18 he studied classical music in Canada. At 20, he started playing Flamenco, after he saw a concert of Vicente Amigo in Japan. In 1996 he started living in Madrid and learned Solo- style Flamenco Guitar with Victro Monge "Serranito". From 1997 to 2000 he lived in Jerez de la Frontera (Andalucía) and learned accompany to Cante and Baile with lots of local artist. In 2002, his first solo album "Una mañana en Bolivia" was released. The song "Fantasma2" gained the prize of the best recording award of Japan (in the jazz/classic genre). In 2010 he gained the special 1st international prize (non-Spanish nationality) in the competition of Flamenco Guitar "Niño Ricardo" in Murcia, Spain. In 2013, Jin Oki released a collaboration album "Dialogo" which featured top Japanese artists such as Kazumi Watanabe, coba, MIYAVI, Kotaro Oshio, Toshimitsu Agatsuma, and Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra. Successor of the album is "Clásico", an album with a classical approach which came out in 2017. In November 2018, he released SPAIN, his first collection of musical compositions associated with Spain, to commemorate the 150th anniversary of diplomacy between Spain and Japan.With the world famous Jazz Guitarist, Kazumi Watanabe, Jin is also known for his activities as a guitar duo "Jin Oki con Kazumi Watanabe". When Paco de Lucía's guitar traveled to Japan, he was the only Japanese musician to play the guitar. He has collaborated with numerous musicians such as Manuel Agujetas, Javier Conde, Koji Tamaki, Taro Hakase, Shinichi Fukuda, to name a few, as well as Japanese traditional artists such as Hideki Togi, Noh and Kyogen artists, where he pursues a daring collaboration. Appearing on TV programs and writing pop songs for the likes of EXILE, and also playing guitar on the soundtrack for the famous anime "YURI!!! on ICE", Jin Oki continues to break new ground. Not only in Japan and Spain, but Jin Oki has done lots of concerts in many countries as Italy, France, China, Nepal, Laos, Bolivia, Cuba, Brazil and Argentina. Jin Oki's guitar sounds Flamenco, but he has very unique musical back ground which make his music special. Jin Oki keeps playing his original Flamenco, paying respect to the root of Spanish Flamenco.
