This is the soundtrack to "The Trip - Enter The Black Hole", a theatrical production directed by Jeff Mills that explores the mysteries of the universe.
The songs on the album were written by Jeff Mills for this stage production and are all new songs.
The previous single 'Contradiction' and the album track 'Hole' feature vocalist Jun Togawa, a legend with an overwhelming presence on the Japanese music scene.
'Contradiction' crystallises the worldviews of Jeff Mills and Jun Togawa, organically merging into a minimalist, floating song with a band sound that is free from the Jeff Mills image. Hall" is a song in which Togawa's avant-garde poetry and vocals are intertwined with disturbing synth sounds over a "true Jeff Mills" beat.
Both songs were recorded by Yamaguchi Shinichi and Yamaji Kazuhide of Yapoos, the band in which Togawa is a vocalist. Lion Merry of the same band is also credited with composing the melody for 'Contradiction'.
The album also contains 12 tracks of various types of music, including separate mixes of 'Contradictions' and 'Holes', 'Beyond The Event Horizon', which is filled with a sense of gradual urgency, 'Time In Abstract', which could be described as spacy contemporary music, 'When Time Stops', which is reminiscent of a retro sci-fi film soundtrack, and 'Infinite Redshift', a superb minimal track that is a perfect ending to the album.
The Trip - Enter The Black Hole is a cosmic opera that embodies Jeff Mills' cosmic vision and thoughts. Featuring Japanese avant-garde heroes Jun Togawa and Yapoos, the soundtrack is a supreme collection of music that has captivated techno and underground music fans around the world.
