This album is the debut work of a new unit formed by Azusa Yamada, Kyotaro Hori, and Junichi Kamiunten, all exceptionally talented musicians with their unique playing styles. The instrumental arrangement is unique: marimba, trumpet, and bass clarinet, with the addition of vibraphone, tenor saxophone, and even throat singing (khoomei). Please enjoy their unique and incomparable sound.
Azusa Yamada majored in marimba and studied under Keiko Abe and Mayumi Hama at the College Diploma Program of the Faculty of Music at Toho Gakuen School of Music. While still a student, she participated in "WUJA BIN BIN" and "Shibusa Shirazu Orchestra", and released live performances and albums with her own bands nouon and Azusa Yamada Quintet. Since 2016, she has released the "Azusa Yamada and Pearl Alexander at Sakaiki" series. She has supported artists such as Gen Hoshino and Masakatsu Takagi, and performed at Glastonbury Festival, FUJI ROCK, and other venues both in Japan and abroad. In recent years, she has been creating musical picture books and engaging in new activities with the new trio "ICI".
Kyotaro Hori plays a variety of music genres, influenced by jazz, ambient, electronica, and Afrobeat artists. He places emphasis on expanding the range of trumpet playing, and in his own band Klehe, he focuses on the texture of sound and strives for a new interpretation of electroacoustic music. He has participated in WUJA BIN BIN, ACO, TAMTAM, RYOZO BAND, and others as a support artist.
Born in Okinawa. Started playing the saxophone at the age of 20. Junichi Kamiunten is a unique player who can play all saxophones from soprano to baritone, as well as the clarinet and even whistling. He has performed at major festivals such as the 1st Saxophone Newcomer Concert, Yamaha Newcomer Concert, Idina Menzel Japan Tour, North Sea Jazz Festival, London Jazz Festival, and Fuji Rock Festival.
