"Carolan's Welcome" is not formally documented but is attributed to the 18th-century blind Irish bard and composer Turlough O'Carolan based on its style and melody. Though listed simply as 'No. 171' in O'Sullivan's collection without a title, it was named "Carolan's Welcome" by The Chieftains during their performance for Pope John Paul II's visit to Dublin in 1979.
