AKIRA
A singer-songwriter based in Tokyo. Building on a foundation of HIPHOP beats, he weaves in the mellowness of R&B and the texture of Neo-Soul to create an eclectic crossover sound. Deeply committed to the sonic quality of the Japanese language, his voice, delicately whispered at times, rhythmically dancing at others, stands out as one of the most distinctive in the scene. He began his career in 2021, kicking things off with 23 consecutive monthly releases. In 2023, he released two nationally distributed EPs in collaboration with KO-ney and SPENSR respectively. Among these, "SPACE," featured on the SPENSR EP, was selected for TOKYO FM's power play rotation, drawing significant attention. Since then, he has continued collaborating with some of Japan's leading HIPHOP beatmakers, including DJ Mitsu The Beats, 906/Nine-O-Six, and TOSHIKI HAYASHI(%C), carving out new territory at the intersection of vocal-driven music and HIPHOP. On the visual side, he has worked with popular illustrators from Japan and abroad, presenting a unique world that moves fluidly between sound and image. Live, he first made his mark by organizing the culture-driven event "aweaking" at Shibuya WOMB, and has since continued to produce events like "LINK" and "sure shot." He has also appeared at major festivals such as "earth garden" and "TOKYO CALLING," moving freely between club and festival stages. In November 2024, he released his 1st album, which was featured on Apple Music's J-POP / R&B banner and generated buzz. In July 2025, he released his 2nd album, *usual*, as a nationally distributed release, with the track "convenience boy" selected for Lucky FM's power play rotation. That September, he launched a 12-month consecutive release project starting with the single "inner child" featuring anpyo. In its sixth month, February, he released his 3rd album, *sound water drop*. Fusing the rhythmic sensibility of HIPHOP, the flexibility of Neo-Soul, and the melodic heart of R&B, AKIRA's artistry continues to chart new coordinates within the scene.
