The song 'Bicycle Song' by the Kyoto band 'Kakushi Toride' is now available for streaming.
The song is written and composed by Naoki Tohdo. It is performed
by a trio consisting of Naoki Tohdo on acoustic guitar and vocals,
Yoko Shibata on Ibo drum, and Koshi Hasegawa on upright bass. Shibata and Hasegawa also contribute to the chorus, adding depth to the music.
Kakushi Toride's music is characterized by a minimalistic kayoukyoku base, where instruments repeat phrases while the melody dances.
'Bicycle Song' begins with a 13-beat melody, transitions to a 4-beat rhythm in the middle, and returns to a 13-beat pattern at the end. Composer Tohdo explains, "I initially tried to create a 5-beat song, but it didn't go well, and before I knew it, it became a 13-beat piece (laughs)."
Tohdo, who enjoys music that conveys the breath of people and the scent of the land, feels that this song, while featuring an easy-to-follow melody, also contains a touch of a folk music vibe.
Regarding the lyrics, 'Why am I so sleepy, even though I slept so much? Let's wake up by riding my bicycle,' Tohdo says, 'I hope those commuting or going to school by bicycle will hum this song. Overall, I think the song is about the heaviness of starting something new and the resolve to move forward with a positive attitude.'
