Lyric

A fresh-faced kid presents a deck

A hundred slides upon the wall

He talks of alignment and synergy

I don't quite get the point at all

Bandwidth, deep dive, KPIs

Keywords floating through the air

Three minutes in, I sip my drink

And wonder if I'm really there

I softly nod, I wear a smile

A calm and cool professional face

While somewhere quiet in my mind

I'm drifting off to another place

My smile says, "I understand"

My mind says, "Not a clue"

Where is this meeting going?

I wish somebody knew

Let's circle back

(What does that mean?)

Let's circle back

(Say it nice and slow)

Let's circle back

(Just speak it plain)

Let's circle back

(Here we go again)

I nod along to keep the peace

While confusion fills the air

Let's circle back

(One more time)

Let's circle back

(Sigh...)

Another chart, another term

EBITDA upon the screen

ROI and corporate roads

The strangest things I've ever seen

Nobody asks, nobody speaks

No one wants to be the fool

The person sitting next to me

Looks just as lost, but plays it cool

The young rep keeps on talking

Buzzwords floating through the room

I take another sip of coffee

And watch the afternoon

Nobody asks

Nobody knows

But somehow still

The meeting goes

Let's circle back

(What does that mean?)

Let's circle back

(Take it easy, now)

Let's circle back

(Plain English, please)

Let's circle back

(Gently now)

The jargon keeps on multiplying

Every week a little more

Let's circle back

(One more time)

Let's circle back

(Please...)

[Bridge]

Then I stop and sip my coffee

Thinking of my younger days

Didn't we have our own strange words

And our own confusing ways?

Groovy, rad and awesome

Every generation has its phrase

Maybe my dad just shook his head

When I talked that way for days

Maybe nothing really changes

Maybe that's the funny part

The words keep changing all the time

But people stay the same at heart

Let's circle back

(Ah, now I see)

Let's circle back

(We've all been there)

Let's circle back

(Youth will be youth)

Let's circle back

(ASAP...)

Funny how the phrases change

While people stay the same

Let's circle back

(Ah, now I see)

Let's circle back

(ASAP...)

The young ones now

The young me then

Maybe we're not so different

In the end

Tomorrow brings another deck

Another plan, another slide

I'll smile and nod politely

And take it all in stride

Or maybe

Just maybe

Could somebody tell me

What it means

In plain English?

ASAP

Let's circle back
