Long ago, in a world consumed by war, there was a lone girl and the robot who protected her. The girl's name was Iris. She had lost her family in the war and wandered through the ruins of a devastated city until she was found by a discarded security robot named Ordo.
Ordo was not designed for combat. He was originally programmed for VIP protection. But as the war intensified, his master had vanished, leaving him to deteriorate in the shadows of the ruined city. When he discovered Iris, his system reactivated.
"Initiating protection of highest-priority subject."
From that moment on, Ordo guarded Iris tirelessly. Through rain and freezing nights, through hunger and fear, he remained by her side. He scavenged for food, drove off bandits, and when she cried herself to sleep, he played gentle lullabies from his databanks.
Yet, Ordo's power supply was finite. As their journey stretched on, his functions began to declinehis movements slowed, his responses lagged. Then, one morning, Iris woke to find Ordo completely still.
"Ordo?"
She called his name again and again, but there was no response. Tears streamed down her face as she clung to him, her protector, now silent. The only thing left was the final message displayed on his monitor.
"Highest-priority subject's safety secured."
That night, the sky was adorned with brilliant stars, as if bidding farewell. Iris lay beside Ordo, feeling the warmth of the one who had protected her until the very end.
The one who had been her guardian, her family, her home.
