Tokyo-based rapper hamma has released a two-track single titled "hammapiano," his first collaboration with South African dance music producer audiot909, who specializes in Amapiano. This release presents a new form of club music infused with a uniquely Japanese physicality, emotion, and urban sensibility by integrating the globally growing Amapiano sound into the context of Japanese rap.
The release features two tracks: the melodic "Seaside Nostalgia (prod. audiot909)," themed around memories of this summer, and the floor-ready vocal amapiano track "hamma-pi (prod. audiot909)." Singer-songwriter Nanajuhachi contributes vocals to the chorus of "Seaside Nostalgia." While preserving Amapiano's essence-light percussion and a gritty shuffle feel-this work uniquely blends hamma's lyrics and vocal quality, embodying "urban tranquility and intensity," with a distinct resolution. The interplay between hamma's storytelling prowess and audiot909's meticulous beatmaking has given birth to a truly Japanese Amapiano-one that transcends mere imitation of overseas trends.
