    KENJI KIHARA is a Japanese composer and musician based in Nishi Izu, Shizuoka, a quiet seaside region of Japan. Inspired by the sounds of nature, light, and the shifting air of each season, he creates gentle, contemplative music that blends electronic tones with field recordings. His works, released through labels in Japan and abroad, explore the subtle beauty found in everyday moments and the quiet emotions that linger beneath them. They invite the listener into a calm and intimate sonic landscape. Under the name sphontik, he weaves elements of jazz and Brazilian music into warm, laid-back chill out and lounge compositions. As KENJI KIHARA, he focuses on ambient and electronic music, while as Kenji Kihara, he releases acoustic songs rooted in simplicity and warmth. Beyond his solo works, he produces music for exhibitions, installations, in-store environments, and commercials, and contributes remixes for various artists. Together with Yuri Miyauchi, he co founded BGM LAB, a project exploring the relationship between sound and space.
