Akihisa Matzura originally created another piece in 2006 for the Niigata Soh-Odori Festival in Nigata, and has since become the signature theme for the festival each year. However this new version has developed into something more dramatic.The use of the traditional Taru-Kinuta drum, with it's idiosyncratic rhythm, brings new energy to the music; creating a new "Niigata Soh-Odori" style. In spite of the use of traditional instruments, such as the Tsugaru Shamisen, traditional Japanese drums, and Shinbue a traditional Japanese flute, the music is still able to keep the rhythm of the Taru-Kinuta drum. Thus giving new dynamism to the tradition spirit. His music is already well known in Asia and Europe and will be part of the world community soon enough.
